My friends My Life My Phone

Growing up in 70s and 80s was so different from the lifestyles of youth today. While still in our teens we could  have never imagined what technology would offer in the first decade of 21st  century.  We grew up without Cable channels, color TV, internet and mobile handsets.  Today even a kabadiwala has his own mobile number.

The new Tata Docomo Handset with One Touch Net  “is an affordable solution targeted at the digital youth who want to stay connected to  internet and information services on their mobile phone.” At Rs 5,499 it ,  is a cool bargain. As the punchline  says….

                                                  Share Life

There are numerous  folktales and many instances in mythological legends that show that friends and friendship have been valued since the beginning of civilized world.

In the famous Hindu epic Mahabharata,  Lord Krishna demonstrates the many colors of friendship – affection, romance, brotherhood, protection, guidance ,intimacy and even teasing.

We all remember the Bollywood blockbuster of the 70s.. SHOLAY and the very popular song… ye dosti ham nahi chhodenge…..

Here’s why friendship is so beautiful:

(A)ccepts you as you are
(B)elieves in "you"
(C)alls you just to say "HI"
(D)oesn't give up on you
(E)nvisions the whole of you (even the unfinished parts)
(F)orgives your mistakes
(G)ives unconditionally
(H)elps you
(I)nvites you over
(J)ust "be" with you
(K)eeps you close at heart
(L)oves you for who you are
(M)akes a difference in your life
(N)ever Judges
(O)ffers support
(P)icks you up
(Q)uiets your fears
(R)aises your spirits
(S)ays nice things about you
(T)ells you the truth when you need to hear it
(U)nderstands you
(V)alues you
(W)alks beside you
(X)-plain things you don't understand
(Y)ells when you won't listen and
(Z)aps you back to reality

Man is a social creature and loves to make friends to further the process of socialization. The invasion of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are a confirmation.  Taking this further are the mobile handsets which come with complete net advantage like the TATA DOCOMO Handset.

Like everyone else I too use a handset.  And since the advent of mobile
phones the concept of communication between people and especially friends and family has been revolutionized.  Here is a list of 10  ways in which my mobile works for me

  1. Birthdays: It doesn’t matter if you cant be physically present near  your friend to wish her on her Birthday. You may be traveling in a remote areas but you can trust your mobile connection to enable you to wish her on her special day. The same goes for other important occasions like anniversary,  a job promotion, an engagement, house warming, birth of a child and more.
2.  Laughter the best medicine

Sharing jokes  can be a fun way to keep connected and  bring a smile on your friend’s place.  It breaks the monotony of work or mundane life.

Here is a Santa Banta joke:

Santa and Banta boasting of their parents achievements to each other

Santa : 'Have you ever heard of the Suez Canal?'
Banta : 'Yes, I have'
Santa : 'Well, my father dug it.'
Banta : 'That's nothing, have you ever heard of Dead sea?'
Santa : 'Yes, I have.'
Banta : 'Well, my father killed it.'

In addition to jokes once can send motivational quotes to friends going through tough times and  thus share their grief and be a source of support and encouragement.. a virtual shoulder to cry on.

  1.  Mass SMS

Whatever be the occasion… when you want to send and share information about the happenings in your life you can instantly save time by sending bulk SMS. The Babri Masjid verdict doesn’t happen everyday  and  neither do restrictions on SMS J

 4.   Sharing Pictures and Videos

Blue tooth technology makes it easy to share pictures and videos from your friends.

  1. Catching up after decades

Facebook and Google has made it possible to track old school and college friends.  Recently I had the good fortune to trace my college mate after a gap of  27 years.  It was wonderful talking to her and sharing about our lives.

  1. Status Updates/ Mobile uploads
You need not be logged into your laptop to update your status on Facebook or Twitter.  Your handset makes it possible to do that. By changing your relationship status on Facebook you can announce to the whole world that you are married… just as the sitar player Anoushka Shankar did after her recent marriage to a British Director.

  1. Music

My daughter uploads my favorite songs on my mobile and it’s a pleasure to listen to them.  Perhaps the most interesting part is that my maid too has Bhojpuri songs  uploaded in her mobile and listens to them when her work is over.

  1. Job Opportunities
Thanks to job portals like and others, you can get job offers as SMS on your mobile

  1. A Suitable Boy

As a parent of grown daughter I have a huge responsibility of getting her married.  Like so many thousands of parents, I too have created my daughter’s profile on a popular marriage portal. Any a time a boy  “ accepts” the interest you have shown in his profile you get a SMS!

  1. Good old gossip
Last and not the least… good old gossip.  As women we are known to indulge in gossip.. It could be with your close friends. Sister or mum. A mobile phone dispels all distances between friends.... you might be anywhere.. at the airport, in the train, in the car,, waiting in a queue, stuck in traffic jam, on a holiday, at the Mall,  at the movies, in the hospital, attending a party or wherever..... the punchline of Tata DOCOMO phone holds true..... Share Life... Anytime..... Anywhere

So indeed My life is interwoven around my friends and family and my phone makes it possible to be connected to all regardless of place or time. Cant imagine life without my mobile J
