HUMOR : Khushwant Singh Style :))

This Blog Post is a direct lift from the Hugely popular  weekly column, 'With Malice Towards One and All' by the legendary author and journalist Khushwant Singh, published in the Sunday edition of The Hindustan Times.

I am sharing this Post , thanks to my hubby,  who pointed out  this article to me. I marveled and laughed so much that i simply had to share this.

Coming from him, at the ripe age of 97, it is a lesson for all of us to never give up on life, never stop working and treat each day as a gift of Life.  Truly commendable! Read on......

RAPE & SHIT

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of the economy, your government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers 50 years of age and older on early retirement. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be raped can apply to the government to be eligible for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination).
Persons who have been raped and shafted will be reviewed under the SCREW Program (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers).
A person may be raped once, shafted twice and screwed as many times as the government deems appropriate.
Only persons who have been raped can get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents and Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earning for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Obviously, persons who have aids or herpes will not be shafted or screwed any further by the government.
Persons who are not raped and are staying on, will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible.
The government has always prided itself in the amount of shit it gives out. Should you feel that you do not receive enough shit, please bring this to the attention of your local MP. They have been trained to give you all the Shit you can handle.

Unbelievable spirit, i had told you, right :))

  1. I am very sorry. But I find the word rape used in such a light manner very disheartening and not funny at all.

    1. Thank you Shail for your comment and perspective.

I have to confess that to me the post was all about humor in totality. I never thought from your point of view.

If the post had been from anyone other than the veteran author i would have not been amused at all. Moreover, i also recollect that recently IHM and you shared link about 'Justice for child abuse victim' and that aspect is large on you mind.

Firstly, as a woman and as a mother of two girls i also feel strongly about the issue. I have signed the petition, with my full name and a comment... serial no 336.

Secondly, though i have not read most of his works,i do know his stature. The fact that his article is published in a National Daily, probably is a feeler that his humor would not offend peopele.(Although i agree, not everything published is always right)

Cutting short... as this is a comment forum, ill just say that entire article was plain humor of acronyms as Saru points out....come to that, AIDS is also a life threatening and social issue.

So, i just read this with a pinch of salt, cos it is as the title says....'HUMOR : Khushwant Singh Style".

I guess it is all about perspectives.... i quote from my post:

"Coming from him, at the ripe age of 97, it is a lesson for all of us to never give up on life, never stop working and treat each day as a gift of Life".

Perhaps the above line tells you the light in which i saw the article.

Yet, it is always good to get someone else's perspective.

Sorry, if it hurt your sentiments. It was just for a good laugh and to share the working spirit of a 97 year old veteran.
      Amen :)

    2. I expressed my view on the matter. You can accept or reject it. But please do not belittle my concerns by attributing my comment to any recent happening that is 'large on my mind'. I resent that.
I can rebut every argument you have put up. But I choose not to because all you have to do is google 'rape culture' if you are interested and find the answers.
      Good day to you Aabha.

I value u as a blogger and friend whom i have met personally, so i'd rather we not do this here. Sending you a message in Inbox.

  3. I have often have had to take Khushwant Singh with a spoon of salt. I agree with Shail that it is unpalatable to play with the word Rape, but knowing him, he probably was as angry as anyone of was and just connecting the two sets of examples. After all, the government calls its version by some honorable expansion of the acronym when it does something similar to its citizens.

    1. Yea Bikram. His attitude towards his work is commendable. And the whole point of this article is satire on the govt. His way of giving them a prod and a wake up call :)
