Remembering Gautam Buddha

For some reason i have always believed in experiencing  things myself rather than simply accepting them on having heard.

Below is a beautiful and wise quote by Buddha:

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it.

Believe nothing just because belief is generally held

Believe nothing because it is said in ancient books

Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin

Believe nothing just because someone else believed it

Believe what only YOU yourself test and  judge to be TRUE.

Channel of Peace

Here is a lovely prayer  i remember from my school , Holy Cross in Mongu, Zambia:

Make me a Channel of your peace
where there is hatred let me bring your love,
Where there is injury your pardon lord,
and where ther's doubt , true faith in you.

Oh, master grant that i may never seek,
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand
To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is despair in Life, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness only Light,
and where there is sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive;
And in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hate, let me sow love,
Where there is injury let me sow
a pardon deep as the flowing sea.

Where there is doubt let me sow faith
Where there is despair, let me sow hope,
Where there is darkness let me sow light
Where there is sadness let me sow joy.

O Loving Lord, may i not seek
to be understood as to understand;
to be consoled as to console,
or to be loved, but to love men.

For it is in GIVING that we RECEIVE
It is in forgiving that we are forgiven
and it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life, to eternal life.

--Saint Francis of Asisi

Amazing Grace

As a student in Holy Cross Secondary school, this prayer was part of our morning assembly.  Then for some reason i Googled it in  2006 and copied it  in my diary.

Below is a beautiful poem by John Newton.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now i see.

'T was grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour i first believed!

Through my dangers, toils and snares,
We have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures,
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall posess within the veil
A life of joy and peace.

The Earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The Sun forbid to shine;
But God who called me here below,
will be forever mine.
