MIRACLE

O Savior!
In bygone times
When I  was a tender lass
Poised at the threshold
Of a new life
Despondent in my heart
Clueless
And bereft of hope
You gave me a miracle.

Years later
When I became stripped of utopia
Wading through gloom
You shone the light
And I escaped
The nightmarish tunnel.

A third catastrophe
Struck
My gossamer heart
And you manifested and gave me
Courage and
Fortitude.

O Savior!
One more time
Grant me a miracle
As I await
Your benevolence
To uncurl my fetal form
And banish the shadows.

O Savior!
Set me ablaze one more time.

GANGA, A CRY

I am Ganga
Not merely a
Stream
Creak
Brook
Or rivulet
But a mighty river
Flowing into the Bay of Bengal.

Revered by so many
Praised by the Vedas
I am  home to fishes and amphibians
Living in my habitat.

People come to me for
Refuge
Upliftment
Cure for disease
Salvation
And to quench their thirst.

Worshiped in
Rishikesh
Haridwar
Kashi and
 Allahabad
I am succor to 400 million people
Living by my banks

But man’s senseless
Meaningless
And selfish wants
Has earned me the tag  of
5th most polluted river.

Shame on you!
From a sacred
And life giving river
Worshipped since civilization
You have reduced
Me to a cauldron
Of pollution and death,

The  Ganga Plan
 Failed miserably
Due to corruption
And lack of support from priests.

Today I am being accused of
Being carcinogenic
But who made me so?
You, the greedy man!

You have dumped my soul
With lethal chemicals
Heavy metals
To run your factories
A mindless  brutish move.

Behold!
You have made me
An agent of disease
Cholera and Dysentery
Hepatitis and Typhoid

Behold!
Wake up now
And stop this plundering
Let me not be
A harbinger of death
Stop this maniacal  pollution
Of my sacred waters

Let the Namami Ganga plan
Rinse me to
My former glory
Let me once again be the harbinger of life
Let me be as sacred
As the Vedas sang of my glory
Free me from pollution
O senseless man !
